My name is Irina Didkovsky. I was born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine. I received my formal education by attending both the School of Arts, in Kiev, and later, The State Institute of Fine Arts and Design, also in Kiev. At the age of twenty, I moved with my family to the United States.
Although I do not devote my full time to painting, it is always in my heart and I paint as my time permits. It is my avocation. I am always learning something new and using it in my next painting. Because I enjoy experimenting with new techniques, each piece has a different flavor or atmosphere. Oil and watercolors are my favorite media, but I also work with pastel, charcoal, and pencil.
My inspirations are many: My husband contributes welcome suggestions. My two children and my family members are subjects whose growth and change it is a pleasure to capture and record. The works of fellow artists and photographers inspire and encourage my curiosity, as do the travel photographs of adventurous friends. Sometimes, it is a friend’s life story, my cat, or the ordinary life of my town; but always real places, real people and real life situations capture my fascination.
